We are so excited about this Baby-Led Weaning approach! Our pediatrician introduced it to us as an "innovative" way to start weaning, she cited a conference that she attended here in Italy where they presented some videos of a six-month-year old chewing a broccoli. We were hooked from the very first moment. Besides the fun, from the start it sounded like "the right way" to feed a baby. No mush, no purèes, just normal food that we eat. No feeding with the spoon out of the regular family meals, but a self fead baby during the lunch and the dinner seemed natural. Indeed, in Italy they call it "Natural weaning".
I will not explain here how it works. Instead, I will rather share our experiences and take notes about upcoming consideration we will encounter on the way.
For basic info read:
As there are not much scientific research (maybe there is no need) and not much literature about how babies can feed themselves, we found that the internet community is a helpful resource on how to get informed before you start.
- A lot of information about babies feeding themselves
- We are also reading this book
- We are getting informed on an active forum
- We are reading blogs from the bloggers community
- We are getting local Italian information on autosvezzamento.it

I am ready to start! We are waiting until she is six months old before we start to give her solids (it is recommended). So, two weeks more to go. In the meantime we have some stuff that need to be prepared.
Let's have food&fun!
